Framework agreement and Lesser Poland Voivodeship rolling stock purchase
This latest deal is the third contract signed on January 21 and is based on a framework agreement concluded in September 2024 for the delivery of 25 trains with a cumulative value of over PLN 1.3 billion (EUR 308.3 million), as previously covered by Railway Supply. The framework agreement provided for the possibility of purchasing up to 25 multiple units.
So far, the Marshal’s Office of the Lesser Poland Voivodeship has ordered 19 vehicles through three contracts: two orders for six multiple units each and a third for seven. The order forms part of the Lesser Poland Voivodeship’s strategy to develop sustainable and environmentally friendly rail transport.
Newag Impuls EMU contract supports Szybka Kolej Aglomeracyjna (SKA) services
Once in service, the new Impuls electric multiple units will operate rapid metropolitan railway services Szybka Kolej Aglomeracyjna (SKA) in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship and neighbouring regions. Plans include increasing the frequency on the SKA1 line between Wieliczka Rynek Kopalnia and Krakow Airport, and serving new planned routes once completed, such as Krakow – Myślenice.
The new 45WE Impuls fleet will be used for regional rail services in Lesser Poland, supporting improvements in public transport quality through modern, accessible, and efficient trains. The purchase will be financed from the European Funds for Infrastructure, Climate and Environment 2021–2027 (FEnIKS) programme.
