The MoU also creates a structure for ongoing dialogue and joint technical evaluations, including potential cooperation on high-speed rolling stock linked to PKP Intercity’s initiatives. In that context, it connects the partners’ discussions to PKP Intercity’s plans to purchase 320 km/h trains.

On December 30, 2025, PKP Intercity launched a tender to buy 20 high-speed trains, as noted by Notes from Poland. The contract includes an option for an additional 35 trains capable of operating at speeds of 320 km/h, as covered by Railway Supply.

Zbigniew Konieczek, president of Newag, called the signing an important step in expanding cooperation with Siemens Mobility on the Polish market in the high-speed rolling stock segment. He said that, in high-speed train projects, Siemens is a natural strategic leader for Newag.

Previous projects: metro trains, ETCS, and propulsion components

The Siemens Mobility–Newag partnership already includes metro trains for Warsaw and Sofia. It has also covered traction systems, gearboxes, and on-board ETCS equipment for locomotives and electric trains.

The signed Memorandum of Understanding is described as opening a new chapter, deepening the strategic collaboration and creating space for new joint initiatives. The two companies have worked together for almost 15 years.
