Pakenham Station design awards recognition has put Melbourne’s upgraded hub in the spotlight, with the station picking up four honours at the 2026 Better Future Awards for spaces that pair function with visual impact.

Pakenham Station design awards across Better Future categories

At the Better Future GOV Design Awards, the project secured Gold in “Architecture and Public Realm” and Gold in “Architecture – Transport”. Meanwhile, within the Better Future Australian Design Awards program, it received Gold for “Architecture – Community & Civic” and a Silver award in “Urban Design”.

The Victorian Government said judges praised the station’s bold architectural expression, its integration of Indigenous storytelling and its innovative sustainability features; additional background is available via the Victorian Premier’s Design Awards.

Level Crossing Removal Project delivery and opening

The elevated Pakenham Station and the rail bridge were delivered as part of Victoria’s Level Crossing Removal Project. The upgraded station opened in 2024, alongside the new East Pakenham Station.
