Enterprises that are carrying out railway track maintenance, as well as enterprises that have to maintain their own access railway lines, strive to have modern, productive track machinery in their fleet. Currently, a large number of road vehicles of various classes, purposes and productivity presented on the market can be converted to rail.
When planning the acquisition of the necessary vechicle, many questions related to its operation arise: what productivity is needed, what kind of equipment to use in a particular type of work, what type of machines to buy. And when analyzing the needs and capabilities of the enterprise, it becomes clear that the most optimal and cost-effective solution is the re-equipment and improvement of the vechicles available at the enterprise. This also does not require the creation of a new vacancy.
The excavator, put on a rail track and equipped with attachements, becomes an integral part of the work mechanism of the track crew during the current maintenance of the track, overhaul repairs, snow fighting and other works, since it replaces most of the manual labor and the use of complex repair trains.
After the re-equipment, the vehicle becomes universal and allows you to perform a wide range of work required at a given enterprise. If you correctly distribute the technology of work for the excavator, then your machine will be in operation all year round.
Railway track repair
Using an excavator with attachments (grab, tamping unit with built-in vibration unit, bucket-type sleepers changer, rail traverse, etc.), it is possible to perform such works as:
- change of rails;
- dismantling and laying of the rail and sleepers;
- tamping and straightening of the track;
- elimination of mud pumping;
- ballast filling, ballast prism leveling;
- transportation of materials, equipment and tools;
- power supply for railway tools.
All this can be performed by one unit, with a small number of track workers. For example, to change sleepers, a track worker is only needed to join and fasten crutches or terminal bolts, the rest of the operation of changing sleepers is performed by the machine. Regardless of the density of the soil and the configuration of the ballast section, the productivity per shift of one such brigade is 70-120 sleepers per shift. After changing the sleepers, the same machine dumps empty sleeper boxes and ends, grading and tamping the replaced sleepers. The same machine carries out delivery and removal of material.
Maintenance of railway tracks, roads and the territory of the enterprise
With the use of a mechanical road brush, a year-round cleaning of roads and territories of enterprises, wagon depots, railway tracks and sleepers, crossings and other surfaces from debris can be carried out.
With the help of a brush cutter installed on a rail-mounted excavator, you can clear the line of sight from vegetation. The width of the processing zone is from 1000 to 2500 mm.
The excavator is of no small importance in the current maintenance of the track in the winter. You can connect to it both a brush device, a snow blade, a screw snow rotor, and a snow bucket for cleaning aprons, crossings and adjacent territories from snow.
Loading and unloading works
An excavator with buckets of various shapes and purposes can be widely used when loading bulk materials for industrial or agricultural purposes, carrying out energy-intensive earthworks during the construction of railways and highways, during the repair of road surfaces.
Rail-mounted vehicles allow the company to fundamentally solve the issue of transport services in a completely new way, since it can work as a tractor for road transport, and the ability to quickly switch to rail allows it to be used to perform shunting operations with wagons. This allows you to significantly increase the speed of cargo handling within the enterprise.
On the rail, you can install such basic full-revolving excavators as: ATLAS, DOOSAN, CATERPILLAR, NEW HOLLAND, VOLVO, KOMATSU, HYUNDAI and others.
In addition, it is possible to convert the existing tractor equipment into a shunting locomotive for the movement of railway wagons with the installation of the brake system of the wagons and the SA-3 automatic coupler.
There are four main criteria for converting a tractor into a shunting locomotive:
- automatic gearbox of the “Power Shift” type
- engine power from 200 kW (272 HP)
- hydraulic system from 160 liters.
- tractor weight from 10 tons. (can be added by installing ballast on the wheels).
The main purpose of a rail-mounted tractor is to replace shunting locomotives of the middle class operated at large enterprises with developed railway systems on their own territory.
These are enterprises of metallurgy, machine building, construction industry, energy, agro-industrial complex, coal, chemical industry, sea and river ports, warehouses, elevators, locomotive and passenger depots, small and medium-sized enterprises of various profiles.
With rail travel, the tractor arrives quickly and reliably to its destination and always by the shortest route. To put it on the rails, a small 5-meter section of the railway crossing is enough and the driver will need up to 5 minutes of time for this.
The main advantage of such equipment is that with a mass of 10-12 tons and a power of 200 hp. it is capable of developing a traction force on a rail track, which ensures the movement of loaded wagons in the amount of 6-8 units on slopes up to 8%, on sections with a zero slope up to 1000 tons, while retaining the ability to work as a tractor for road transport.
Conversion of the equipment available at the enterprise to the rail track is economically profitable and quickly repayable, because allows you to optimize the transportation of goods within the enterprise and reduce operating costs, reduce the cost of manual labor in the maintenance and repair of railway tracks.
