High-speed electric train “Lastochka” tested in Eastern Siberia

High-speed electric train Lastochka , produced at the Ural Locomotives plant, made a test drive from Irkutsk to Ulan-Ude and back. A two-system electric train ES1P, capable of moving on sections with both direct and alternating current, set off on the voyage. This is reported by the railway magazine Railway Supply with reference to the information of the manufacturing company.

The distance of more than 450 km between the capitals of the two regions “Lastochka” covered in 6 hours. For comparison, the trains currently serving the site run at least 7 hours and 30 minutes. By car, the journey also takes more than 7 hours.

ES1P successfully overcame mountain pass section Bolshoy Lug — Slyudyanka, which is one of the most difficult to drive trains.

The new passenger rolling stock, developed for the regions, appeared on the East Siberian Railway for the first time. Based on the results of the test drive, the issue of launching regular traffic will be decided.

The two-system high-speed electric train “Lastochka” ES1P was developed, produced and certified by the Ural Locomotives plant in 2018. It is designed to carry passengers on sections with different types of current up to 700 km. The trains provide for the possibility of using Wi-Fi, recharging PCs and smartphones, taking into account the peculiarities of the movement of people with disabilities. The capacity of the 5-car train is 390 seats.

Today, such trains provide regular passenger traffic on routes from Moscow to St. Petersburg, Kostroma, Belgorod, as well as in the vicinity of St. Petersburg and on the Chelyabinsk – Magnitogorsk line.
