Up to 123 Prague Škoda 15T trams will receive passenger air conditioning under a six-year framework contract worth nearly PLN 70 million (€16.5 million) awarded to Poland’s Enika.

Prague Škoda 15T retrofit could cover the full fleet

Prague’s public transport operator, DPP, received 250 Škoda 15T ForCity trams between 2010 and 2019. Its current passenger information⁠ lists 127 air-conditioned 15T vehicles. The new programme targets the remaining 123, so full use of the agreement could bring air conditioning to the entire fleet.

Only the newer 125 trams were equipped at the factory. Two vehicles from the earlier group received pilot installations: car 9243 during production in 2012 and car 9285 as a retrofit in 2019. According to Enika’s contract announcement⁠, DPP opened the tender in October 2025, three bidders participated, and Enika secured the contract.

Three air-conditioning units for each Škoda 15T

Each 31.4-metre, three-section tram will receive three iGlacio 17AC/6AC units developed specifically for the project. One unit will serve each vehicle section, giving Enika a potential production scope of 369 systems.

Every unit will provide 17 kW of cooling and 6 kW of heating. The specification also requires ventilation and supplementary heating for colder weather. Enika says each roof-mounted unit will include an integrated auxiliary converter connected directly to the tram’s traction power supply.

Škoda’s technical profile⁠ lists the 15T as a 100% low-floor tram with capacity for 284 passengers and a maximum speed of 60 km/h. Its pivoting-bogie arrangement combines a step-free interior with operation on the tight curves found in Prague’s historic centre.

Installation moves from Prague to Łódź

Installation will take place at MPK Łódź workshops in Poland. The operator will provide facilities and specialist staff for work on the 15T’s unusual sandwich-type roof structure.

Once the programme begins, roughly one tram will travel from Prague to Łódź every two weeks while a completed vehicle returns to the Czech capital. The agreement runs for six years, but the announcement does not specify the first transfer date or a fixed completion date for all 123 trams.
