14.05.2026
Plasser & Theurer 2025 revenue reached €731 million ($855.8 million) in the 2025 fiscal year. It was the strongest annual level in the company’s history. The figure was 56% higher than the previous year. The Austrian-based manufacturer of maintenance-of-way machinery identifies the U.S. as its second-largest market. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Also, Plasser & Theurer said order intake reached a record level. It was approximately €1 billion ($1.17 billion). In addition, its order backlog exceeded €1.6 billion ($1.87 billion). Operating profit rose from €11.6 million ($14.6 million) to €41.4 million ($48.5 million). That was an increase of more than 250%.
Record revenue and order backlog
In its press release, Plasser & Theurer said the results came “following a number of economically challenging years,” and that a “transformation launched in 2024 is yielding lasting results.” Still, the company noted that the broader economic landscape remains a challenge. It said 93% of its projects are exported from a high-cost country. At the same time, it competes with suppliers from countries where prices are lower. Some suppliers are sometimes heavily subsidized.
Linz factory and hybrid propulsion systems
Separately, Plasser & Theurer plans to open a new assembly and commissioning factory in Linz, Austria, this year. The company describes the €60 billion investment as its largest in Austria in more than 70 years. The plant is expected to create about 80 jobs. It will provide infrastructure for production and international marketing of machines. That includes machines using hybrid propulsion systems to reduce CO2 emissions.
Plasser & Theurer employs about 2,200 people in Austria. Also, it has about 6,000 employees worldwide through its affiliates. For example, these include Plasser American facilities in Chesapeake, Va., as reported by Trains.com. In addition, the company lists Germany, the U.S., the United Kingdom, India, and Japan as its largest sales markets. Further details are available through the Plasser & Theurer website and the Plasser American website.
