Integrated mobility Trenitalia ITA Airways ties rail and air
12.03.2026
Integrated mobility Trenitalia ITA Airways is the focus of a new memorandum. It is intended to develop an ecosystem combining rail and air transport.

Meanwhile, the agreement was signed by the chief executives of the two companies. They are Joerg Eberhart of ITA Airways and Gianpiero Strisciuglio of Trenitalia, part of Gruppo Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane.
Rail and air transport integration
Under the memorandum, the two companies intend to develop services. These would make it easier for travellers to combine trains, planes and other modes of transport in a door-to-door travel experience.

Also, the initiative continues the cooperation launched in 2023. At the same time, they introduced Air–Rail products. These allow combined booking of air and train travel.
Separately, according to the companies, the goal is to remove operational barriers to intermodal travel. Still, the aim is also to improve connectivity between airports, railway stations and major urban centres.

In addition, the memorandum also provides for the creation of a joint artificial intelligence laboratory for intermodality and sustainability.
For example, these technologies would be used to:
- optimise passenger flows;
- predictively manage transport demand;
- develop integrated digital services;
- reduce CO₂ emissions in transport.
