Impuls 2 series trains for Pomeranian Voivodeship
The Pomeranian Voivodeship authorities have exercised their option to purchase 29 more Impuls 2 series trains under the framework contract signed with Newag in August 2022 for the supply of two electric trains, worth PLN 70 million (approx. EUR 15 million). This was reported by Railway Supply magazine, citing zdmira.
The total purchase price for the 31 Impuls 2 trains is about 1.1 billion PLN (235.6 million EUR), of which 690 million PLN will be provided by the European Union and the rest by the Pomeranian Voivodeship. The deal was preceded by the signing of an agreement with PKP Szybka Kolej Miejska (PKP SKM), the transport operator in the Trójmiasto agglomeration (Gdańsk-Gdynia-Sopot), which entitles them to co-financing from EU funds.

The first eight trains will arrive in Poland by the end of 2023, and from 2026 the new trains will run on a 40 km route between Gdańsk and Wejherowo. In regional traffic, 11 two-car trains will be used, each carrying 440 passengers, of whom 140 will be able to ride seated. There will be 20 three-car trains carrying 500 passengers each in the Trujmiasto agglomeration. The new trains are adapted for people with reduced mobility, equipped with air conditioning and passenger information systems and have bicycle seats.
The new rolling stock will replace the current EN57 electric trains and improve passenger comfort and safety.
In 2022, the volume of railway transport in the Pomeranian Voivodeship exceeded 57 million passengers, of which 43 million people were carried by PKP SKM trains in the Trójmiasto agglomeration. According to the voivodship, the number of passengers may increase to 60 million in 2023.
