Ukrzaliznytsia signed an agreement to renew its fleet of freight electric locomotives

On May 13, 2021, representatives of the Governments of the French Republic and Ukraine signed a framework agreement on the implementation of the renewal project for freight electric locomotives  fleet of JSC Ukrzaliznytsia. On behalf of Ukraine, the agreement was signed by the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denis Shmygal, informs Railway Supply magazine citing UZ.

“Supporting the project for the modernization of the Ukrzaliznytsia electric locomotive fleet at the government level is a clear signal for our company – the shareholder represented by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine is taking decisive steps to support in solving pressing problems of the railway industry. It is also a signal for the national economy, the work of the government is aimed at developing the economic potential of Ukraine, strengthening the transit positions of the state. A collective of many thousands of railway workers welcomes the Government’s decision to sign a framework agreement, ”said the acting Chairman of the Board of JSC “Ukrzaliznytsia” Ivan Yurik.

Ukrzaliznytsia reached the record of daily loading of goods since the beginning of the year

Preliminarily, we are talking about the purchase of 130 electric freight locomotives. Alstom is one of the leaders in the production of electric locomotives and has significant experience in their manufacture for the 1520 gauge. The French manufacturer plans to offer Prima T8 locomotives, which can move up to 9 thousand tons and move at a speed of 120 km/h.

The needs of Ukrzaliznytsia to update the fleet of freight electric locomotives:

  • To purchase at least 50 units by 2025
  • Until 2033 – 265 more locomotives
  • The total demand by 2033 is 315 electric locomotives at least.
