More efficient transport to the port in Gdansk will be provided by an overpass over the railways

Goods will be transported by rail to the port of Gdansk in a safer way and road connections in the city will become more efficient. Already, one can see the construction of a 100-meter road viaduct, which will replace the crossing. This is reported by Railway Supply magazine with reference to PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe SA

This is one of the results of PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe SA’s investments in expanding rail access to the port, implemented within the framework of the CEF “Connecting Europe” program.

A viaduct with a length of more than 100 meters with two traffic lanes and a sidewalk will replace the railway crossing on the street. Ku Ujście between Gdańsk Northern Port and Gdańsk Kanał Kaszubski stations. The brushless intersection will improve the safety of rail and road traffic and improve communication in the city. Train and car access to the port of Gdansk will be more efficient. Access roads will also be repaired and built. The viaduct is scheduled for completion in 2021.

The pillars are ready, the steel structure of the viaduct is assembled. Workers perform reinforcement and then concrete the supporting structure. At the next stage, the necessary equipment for the overpass will be installed. The land is fortified at the entrances. The works include the construction of a new sewerage system and the reconstruction of electrical, telecommunication, gas, water supply and sewerage networks.

The cargo goes to the port on new routes

Trains are already running on seven new tracks at the station North Port of Gdansk and the new line Gdansk Kashubski Canal – North Port of Gdansk. More than 25 km of new tracks and 81 turnouts have been laid at the station of the North Port of Gdansk. New tracks have been modernized and a new traction network has been installed. The contractor prepares the track lighting and carries out the teletechnical and electrical installation. Modern devices of the traffic control system will ensure efficient and safe transportation of goods by ecological rail transport.

At the Gdańsk Zaspa Towarowa station, railway workers start trains from the new control room. The reconstruction of the track on the route Gdansk Main – Gdansk Zaspa Tovarova was completed. The following sections of the track and support of the contact network are installed. The reconstruction includes, among other things, a bridge over the Strzyna River. Near the Gdańsk Stadion Expo stop, after the ground has been strengthened, tracks are laid for the demonstration of rolling stock. The rails at the Gdansk Wislany station were also replaced. The last section of the line Gdansk-Zaspa Tovarova – Gdansk-Vistula is being rebuilt.

Efficient and safe transportation of goods

The effect of the project, entitled “Improving the infrastructure of railway access to the port of Gdansk”, will allow more cargo to be transported. Longer cargo trains will be able to reach the quays – even heavier trains of 750 meters with an axle load of 221 kN. With new traffic control devices cargo transportation will become more efficient and safer. The cost of works in Gdansk exceeds PLN 1.1 billion net. Almost 40 percent of this amount is EU funding from the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) – “Connecting Europe”. All work is planned to be completed by the end of 2021.
