PKP has awarded a PLN 8.2 million design-and-build contract for the first dedicated Opoczno Południe station building, with completion scheduled for the first half of 2028.

Design starts before construction in 2027

Polish State Railways signed the agreement with Wimaks Toczyłowski Sp. k. on 23 July 2026 following a competitive tender. The contractor will begin with design work, while construction is scheduled to start in the first quarter of 2027.

The project will replace the current lack of permanent indoor passenger facilities. The building will contain a waiting room, public toilets, seating, passenger information systems and a vending machine for food and drinks. Security and monitoring systems will also be installed.

According to the official announcement from Opoczno municipality⁠, the external works will provide two accessible parking bays and two Kiss & Ride spaces. Shelters, benches and waste bins will be added around the building.

These facilities will complement the 160-space car park previously delivered at the station by PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe.

Facilities target rising passenger demand

Opoczno Południe recorded about 1,000 passengers and approximately 30 train stops per day in 2024, based on station data published by Poland’s Office of Rail Transport⁠.

Located on Poland’s Central Railway Line, the station is served by PKP Intercity⁠ trains running to destinations including Kraków, Olsztyn, Szczecin, Vienna, Prague and Munich. The corridor also links Warsaw with metropolitan areas in southern Poland.

The building is being designed for passengers with reduced mobility, older travellers, families with children and people carrying large luggage. Its passenger areas will integrate with the station’s previously upgraded railway infrastructure.

Following the design and construction stages, PKP expects the entire PLN 8.2 million project to be completed during the first half of 2028.
