The new fleet will run across the county. Also, it will support West Northamptonshire bus network services. In addition, it adds to existing Zero Emission Bus Regional Areas (ZEBRA) projects. Separately, it builds on collaboration with Stagecoach, as West Northamptonshire Council has previously outlined. Meanwhile, the funding is part of a wider £10.4m package. Still, that package will also benefit journeys for people in Liverpool and Nottinghamshire.

Zero emission buses across England
At the same time, the government said the new buses would reduce harmful emissions. Also, they would improve air quality for thousands of passengers. For example, the West Northamptonshire scheme is part of a wider project. In addition, that project will introduce 484 zero emission buses across England.
Government and local reaction
Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander said: “Buses are the backbone of our public transport system, and passengers in West Northamptonshire deserve a network they can rely on and be proud of.”
Mike Reader, Labour MP for Northampton South, said: “People who live, work and study in the area rely on the bus network, so to boost it with brand new vehicles that make the ride cleaner and greener is really welcome.
“This Labour government is showing it will continue to deliver on its promise to invest in our transport, putting passengers at the heart of it, while still bearing down on climate change.”
