The K Line Northern Extension is heading to a Metro board vote. Also, it could bring subway service into West Hollywood for the first time. Still, the city has nightlife, jobs and gridlocked traffic, but no rail connection. In addition, the proposal would address a longstanding gap in Los Angeles transit service.

San Vicente–Fairfax alignment and West Hollywood stops

Under the San Vicente–Fairfax alignment, the current K Line would extend north from Crenshaw. In addition, it would run through Mid-City. Also, it would continue into West Hollywood. Meanwhile, it would eventually reach Hollywood.

If approved, the route could include several WeHo stops. For example, it could connect riders to the Beverly Center, Cedars-Sinai and the Grove. Also, that would provide a rail alternative for trips now made largely by car.

Cost, ridership and the Metro board vote

The proposal carries an estimated cost of $15 billion. As Metro notes, the K Line Northern Extension could generate daily trips. In addition, those trips could number in the tens of thousands. Also, more than 125,000 jobs could lie within walking distance of its stations.

K Line Northern Extension up for Metro board vote
The plan, known as the San Vicente–Fairfax alignment, would extend the existing K Line north from Crenshaw through Mid-City and into West Hollywood, eventually reaching Hollywood.

The proposal has been studied, debated and delayed for years. Separately, the Metro board is expected to vote on Thursday, March 26. The City of West Hollywood says the meeting is at Metro Headquarters in Downtown. Meanwhile, public input remains open. Still, officials are urging residents to weigh in before the vote.
