The Ujjain Express derailment took place near Yog Nagari Railway Station in Rishikesh, Uttarakhand. It happened on Monday night. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Three coaches came off the tracks at around 9.30 pm in the Khand Village area. No passengers were on the train.

Initial reports carried by The Times of India suggest the incident may have been caused by brake failure during routine maintenance. Also, questions have been raised about the train’s movement. They also concern the safety procedures followed after the incident.

Senior railway officials reached the site nearly two and a half hours after the coaches came off the tracks. Meanwhile, a large crowd gathered near the railway line after the incident. Government Railway Police personnel later cleared the area. Separately, the railway department has started an investigation into the matter.
