The Union Pacific commemorative locomotive program now includes No. 4547. The unit is dedicated to President Donald Trump. It is part of the railroad’s anniversary initiative. That initiative marks the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States. The locomotive was developed with Wabtec.

As Union Pacific said in its announcement, No. 4547 “celebrates” the current President of the United States. Large American flags appear on both sides. One shows 13 stars for the original colonies. The other shows the current U.S. flag.

The railroad has placed Donald Trump locomotive No. 4547 within its broader U.S. 250th anniversary program. Union Pacific describes the unit as the newest addition to its series of special locomotives.

Also, the program includes two other locomotives with symbolic liveries. One is No. 1776 – America250. It combines the American flag, Union Pacific’s traditional armor yellow livery, and the America250 logo.

In addition, the program includes No. 1616. It is dedicated to Abraham Lincoln, the president who founded Union Pacific in 1862. According to the company, the locomotive will receive a paint scheme inspired by Lincoln’s era.

Meanwhile, these three units reflect different milestones. No. 1776 points to the country’s origins. No. 1616 points to the railroad’s founding by Abraham Lincoln. No. 4547 is tied to the current administration in Washington.

Presidential locomotive series at Union Pacific

Union Pacific says No. 4547 is the third locomotive in its presidential locomotive series. Also, the series includes No. 4141. It honors former President George H.W. Bush.

According to Union Pacific, No. 4141 pulled the funeral train for the former U.S. leader. The train went to his final resting place in College Station, Texas. Separately, the locomotive is now on display at the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum.

Big Boy No. 4014 tour joins the U.S. 250th anniversary program

As previously covered by Railway Supply, the anniversary program also includes a new Big Boy No. 4014 tour. Union Pacific describes Big Boy No. 4014 as the world’s largest operational steam locomotive.

The locomotive is scheduled to arrive in Philadelphia on July 4. The announced route includes stops in Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, New York, and Pennsylvania.

According to Union Pacific’s Big Boy schedule, the first leg begins on March 29. It starts in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Meanwhile, the East Coast leg is set to start on May 25.

Exhibition days are planned in Omaha, Chicago, Buffalo, and Scranton. The locomotive then reaches Philadelphia for Independence Day. For example, other possible stops include Altoona, St. Louis, and Kansas City. The tour is set to conclude on July 29.

Union Pacific CEO Jim Vena said each commemorative locomotive represents important moments. In addition, he said they reflect shared history. He referred to the shared history of Union Pacific and the United States. Also, he said the company wants to highlight the role of railroads. He said they have played a part in the country’s development.

Union Pacific was established in 1862 after President Abraham Lincoln signed the Pacific Railway Act. Today, the railroad operates in 23 states in the western United States.
