The new shunting locomotive XNY with battery traction

CRRC, a major Chinese railway technology manufacturer, has introduced the new XNY shunting locomotive with battery traction, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
This 1.5-megawatt locomotive, equipped with a lithium iron phosphate battery, can transport trains weighing up to 1,200 tons over a distance of up to 128 km.

A unique fast-charging system allows replenishing 1 kW of energy in just 3 seconds. The locomotive is also equipped with monitoring sensors and a remote control system.
CRRC claims that the efficiency of the new machine surpasses that of a diesel locomotive by 12%, and maintenance over its lifecycle costs 20% less.
The company commenced the production of battery locomotives in 2020 and continues its innovative streak, delivering the most powerful battery-equipped locomotive with a 1 MWh capacity to a client in Brazil.
