Martinus haulage service starts in Queensland

The new business, Martinus Haulage, will provide long-term contracted rail transport solutions. It will use its own locomotives and wagons. As Rail Express reported, the company said the operation will start in Queensland. It said it will later expand across Australia, North America and Chile as part of its global growth strategy.

Martinus said the launch marks a “significant milestone” in the group’s evolution into providing a full railway offering. It also represents the next step in that progression. The company said that path runs from a rail construction projects business to a government infrastructure delivery partner. It said the next step is becoming an above rail operator.

Chief Executive Officer Treaven Martinus said: “We build railways, now we operate them,” and “Backed by a new fleet and long-term strategy.”

He added: “This is a natural evolution for Martinus. Our experience designing and building railways, combined with our growing role as a government infrastructure delivery partner, has positioned us to take this next step into operations.

“Together with our infrastructure development capability, we are building a complete railway offering across develop, design, build, own, operate and maintain. No-one else can offer the full above and below rail solution.”

CRRC partnership and fleet plans

Martinus said CRRC Ziyang Co., Ltd. was chosen as its locomotive partner after a comprehensive evaluation process. According to Martinus Group on LinkedIn, the partnership will give Martinus Haulage access to a “new-generation” fleet. It said the fleet will support entry into Queensland’s narrow gauge bulk haulage network. It will also support future expansion.

Treaven Martinus said: “This is about building a long term, stable business that complements what we already do,”

He added: “We are entering a market that is ready for a new approach. Our focus is on reliability, performance and long-term partnerships with our clients.

“We are creating something special and original, and this is just the beginning.”

The company also recognised the team behind the initiative. It said a dedicated haulage and delivery group had been established within the business to move the operation forward. Treaven Martinus said: “This has been built by the team across the business over a number of years,” and “Now it’s becoming real.”

Martinus said further announcements will follow as Martinus Haulage progresses its customer engagements and operational rollout.
