Sepulveda Transit Corridor moves forward with rail option
24.01.2026
The Sepulveda Transit Corridor moved a step closer yesterday after the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (L.A. Metro) board selected a heavy-rail underground option as the locally preferred alternative for the project, as reported by Progressive Railroading and Railway Supply.

Why LA Metro chose a heavy-rail underground transit line?
The proposed heavy-rail underground transit line would run through Sepulveda Pass, the low mountain pass between the San Fernando Valley and west Los Angeles, alongside the notoriously congested Interstate 405.
With the preferred alternative in place, L.A. Metro said in a press release it can move into design refinement, community engagement and the environmental review process.
Planned route and key station connections
Under the locally preferred alternative, the project calls for a heavy-rail underground transit line between the Van Nuys Metrolink Station and the L.A. Metro E Line Expo and Sepulveda Station.
The plan is also modified to connect to the Van Nuys G Line Station and a future East San Fernando Valley light-rail station at Van Nuys Boulevard, according to agency officials.
