Riyadh Metro passenger journeys have reached 200 million since operations began. That is according to the Royal Commission for Riyadh City.

It reached that total only months after the 100-million passenger mark. That earlier milestone was previously covered by Railway Supply. This reflects continued ridership growth across the metro’s six lines.

Riyadh Metro passenger journeys across the network

Also, RCRC said the increase reflects steady passenger demand and strong operational performance.

The largest shares were recorded on:

  • the Blue Line on Olaya Street, at around 45 percent;
  • the Red Line on King Abdullah Road, at 16 percent;
  • the Orange Line on Al-Madinah Al-Munawwarah Road, at approximately 14 percent.

Meanwhile, the remaining lines have also recorded increases in passenger numbers. At the same time, the system is expanding connections across the city. This points to broader Riyadh Metro ridership growth.

Operational performance and key interchange stations

Separately, Railway-News reported operational data released by the commission. It shows about 32.2 million kilometres travelled. In addition, the metro has completed roughly 1.13 million train trips. Service availability has been reported at more than 99.8 percent.

For example, several stations have seen higher passenger volumes than others. Major interchange points include Qasr Al-Hukm, STC, KAFD and the National Museum. These stations allow transfers between lines. They also connect passengers with other parts of the transport network.

Riyadh public transport infrastructure and Saudi Vision 2030

Also, the metro operates alongside the Riyadh Bus system and on-demand bus services. Park-and-ride facilities have also been introduced at several locations. There, passengers can leave private vehicles and continue by public transport.

Still, the expansion of Riyadh public transport infrastructure forms part of the city’s wider urban mobility plans. It also supports the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030. Those measures aim to improve transport options and manage traffic growth in Riyadh.
