The rail infrastructure allocation in Gujarat for the 2026–27 fiscal year was presented as a record Rs 173.66 billion (Rs 173.66 bn), as reported by Construction World.

The Union Railway Minister compared it with the UPA period. He said the allocation for 2009 to 2014 was Rs 5.89 billion (Rs 5.89 bn). Also, he added that the higher funding is aimed at modernising the state network.

Speaking at the Gujarat Semiconnect Conference, the minister said work is underway on projects in the state worth Rs 1.28 trillion (Rs 1.28 tn). Meanwhile, he said the budgetary increase will support a range of railway infrastructure projects in Gujarat, along with improved passenger amenities across the state. Officials, he added, are proceeding with planned upgrades and expansions at pace, as outlined by The Indian Express.

A total of 87 stations in Gujarat have been selected under the Amrit Station Scheme to be upgraded to world class standards, with 21 station projects completed to date. At the same time, the minister said rehabilitation work is reported to be progressing rapidly at key hubs.

For example, he cited Ahmedabad, Sabarmati, Surat, Una and Somnath. The minister indicated that the renovated Ahmedabad station will offer enhanced facilities for passengers.
Ahmedabad–Mumbai Bullet Train operational next year and journey time
Separately, the minister provided an update on the high-speed rail programme, stating that preparations are underway to make the Bullet Train operational next year. He said the Ahmedabad to Mumbai journey would take one hour 57 minutes at a design speed of 350 km per hour, as noted by The Times of India.
In addition, he said seven new high-speed routes have been approved by the prime minister to expand connectivity in future, and he attributed the faster progress of state projects to cooperative efforts within Gujarat.
