Kalyan Station redevelopment scope: architecture, structural and MEPF design services
The consultancy includes conceptual and detailed architectural planning for the new station building, with passenger-friendly layouts, accessibility features, and operational spaces included in the design brief. Meanwhile, structural engineering services are also part of the scope, covering station buildings and associated facilities, with designs intended to meet safety, durability, and railway infrastructure standards.
At the same time, the MEPF design services include mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire-fighting systems. The aim is to provide efficient utilities and safety systems across the station premises, supporting the broader detailed design engineering effort linked to the yard remodeling initiative.
MUTP-3A and the Central Railway network modernization push
The redevelopment work is positioned within the wider modernization initiative under the Central Railway network and forms a component of the Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP-3A), as previously covered by Railway Supply. Kalyan is described as a key junction in the Mumbai suburban network, handling heavy passenger traffic and serving as an interchange point connecting suburban and long-distance routes.
The redevelopment and yard remodeling efforts are expected to improve operational efficiency of train movements and enhance passenger amenities and station infrastructure. In addition, the work is expected to support future traffic growth in the Mumbai metropolitan region and strengthen overall railway network capacity.
Over the 48-month period, the consultant is expected to assist with design development, technical documentation, and coordination with project authorities to support implementation of the station redevelopment plan.
