Potential Winter Storm Fern adjustments for Amtrak riders
22.01.2026
Potential Winter Storm Fern adjustments have Amtrak watching the weekend forecast closely in the Northeast, according to an Amtrak advisory.
This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
The company warns the weather could trigger Amtrak service cancellations or delays, and says it will try to communicate directly with affected customers as updates are made.
Customers with reservations on affected trains will typically be accommodated on the next available departure, or shifted to a different travel day if space allows. During the modified schedule, Amtrak says it will waive any additional charges for customers who decide to change their reservations—an approach also referenced in coverage by Railway Supply.
To stay on top of changes, passengers are encouraged to check Amtrak train status in the Amtrak mobile app or by visiting Amtrak.com for train status updates. For real-time service information on Twitter, Amtrak directs riders to @AmtrakNECAlerts for the Northeast Corridor (Acela, Northeast Regional, and other corridor services) and @AmtrakAlerts for service information outside the Northeast Corridor.
Passengers can also use Amtrak DelayAlerts notifications by subscribing via Amtrak Delay Alert Notifications. The service can send automated email or text message alerts when Amtrak trains are behind schedule at specific stations, and Amtrak notes the advisory reflects the time and date shown and may change as conditions warrant.
