Amtrak train cancellations expand as winter weather hits
22.01.2026
Amtrak train cancellations are expanding as forecasts point to extreme winter weather across a wide stretch of the United States. The carrier says the Floridian and the Heartland Flyer are now among the trains that will not run on the affected dates, with updates posted in Amtrak’s Service Alerts and Notices.

This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
Amtrak Floridian canceled for Jan. 22–23
The Chicago–Miami Floridian is out of service in both directions for today and Friday, Jan. 22–23. In other words, this Floridian cancellation applies to both northbound and southbound trips during that two-day window.

Amtrak Heartland Flyer canceled for Jan. 23–24
The Heartland Flyer, which runs between Oklahoma City and Fort Worth, Texas, is also suspended in both directions on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 23–24. The Heartland Flyer cancellation covers the full route for those dates.
Extreme winter weather forecast drives broader disruptions
These additions follow earlier Amtrak notices affecting the Borealis, City of New Orleans, Empire Builder, and Texas Eagle, as also noted by Railway Supply. For the latest details, Amtrak says travelers should check its Amtrak service advisory, where the current list of affected trains is maintained.
According to the National Weather Service, a broad area from the Rockies to the mid-Atlantic states is facing a mix of watches, warnings, and advisories for extreme cold or winter precipitation, consistent with the agency’s NWS Weather and Hazards viewer and the extreme winter weather forecast behind the service suspensions.
