The Norfolk Southern Jaguar partnership centers on a Doraville rail lease. Jaguar Transport Holdings LLC will lease the rail corridor and transload terminal. Late last week, Norfolk Southern Railway announced the partnership. The agreement also includes local switching service. In addition, it includes targeted infrastructure upgrades tied to new customer demand.

Norfolk Southern Jaguar partnership and the Doraville lease

In a press release, Norfolk Southern said the new short-line arrangement is in Doraville, Georgia. It covers both the corridor lease and the transload terminal lease. Also, Jaguar will integrate closely with the transload facility as it takes on local operations.

The Doraville rail corridor is near Interstates 285 and 85. Meanwhile, Norfolk Southern uses it to serve industrial and logistics businesses in northeast metro Atlanta. In addition, the railroad reaches rail-adjacent customers through local switching and transload access. It also serves regional shippers that depend on truck-to-rail connectivity along the route.

Doraville corridor capacity and future traffic growth

“This deal will drive freight growth, expand capacity and improve local service in metro Atlanta, a model that can be replicated across the network,” said Stefan Loeb, NS’ vice president of business development and first- and final-mile markets, in the release. “We value Jaguar’s experience in local operations and proven track record as we continue to view short lines as an important part of our growth strategy.”

Separately, Jaguar will expand yard capacity in Doraville. It will support future traffic growth. At the same time, the company has committed to performance standards and growth covenants. Those are designed to ensure long-term value creation for both companies.
