Ningbo Type A trains for Lines 10 and 12

The new regional trains were developed jointly by CRRC and Ningbo Rail Transit. Meanwhile, they were presented at the CRRC Ningbo Industrial Base. Also, the Type A trains are described as the first in China. They are intended to run faster than existing lines. Those lines currently operate at 80-100 km/h.

They are expected to help integrate northern and southern Ningbo with the city’s urban core. At the same time, the planned 60-minute commuting circle reflects that cross-city role.

Energy savings and regional train technology

The trains have been developed in line with China’s dual carbon goals. The aim is to reduce overall energy consumption by roughly 15%. The comparison is with more conventional regional trains. In addition, structural optimisation and material upgrades reduce the trains’ weight. The units are 4.28 tonnes lighter, or 2.4% less than conventional models.

Also, the trains’ streamlined design is intended to reduce aerodynamic drag by 5%. Separately, advanced permanent magnet synchronous traction technology is expected to lower traction energy consumption. The reduction is around 14%.
