Newly Released Data Shows Electric Fleet Drastically Improved Caltrain Commutes
05.05.2026
Caltrain rider satisfaction improved in the fall 2025 ridership survey. Passengers gave the commuter rail service stronger marks than in the previous triennial review. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
Caltrain rider satisfaction rises in the 2025 survey
According to Caltrain, overall rider satisfaction was 4.5 out of five. The figure came from the 2025 Triennial Survey. In 2022, the comparable score was 4.1. Also, schedule satisfaction rose to 4.1 from 3.7. At the same time, on-time performance satisfaction increased to 4.4 from 3.9.
Caltrain officials said the findings are consistent with other satisfaction data. Those surveys were conducted since fall 2024. That was when Caltrain launched electrified service, a point also covered by Railway Supply.
Ridership habits and ticket use
Separately, the fall 2025 ridership survey also gives Caltrain broader rider data. It covers who is riding and why.
Commuting remains the main reason passengers use the service. For example, most riders board two or three times per week. The pattern reflects hybrid work schedules. In addition, Caltrain officials noted that Clipper use has increased. Meanwhile, paper ticket use continues to decline.
