K Line Northern Extension moves ahead on San Vicente–Fairfax
04.04.2026
The K Line Northern Extension will move ahead. LA Metro’s Board of Directors voted to advance it on the San Vicente–Fairfax Alignment.

The project is intended to improve connectivity across Los Angeles. It would link communities. It would also improve access to jobs, housing, and cultural institutions. These goals are reflected in the Metro Board’s approval of the San Vicente-Fairfax alignment.
K Line Northern Extension route and connections
The 9.7-mile extension will connect the South Bay to Inglewood and Los Angeles International Airport. It would do so via Crenshaw, Mid-City, and the Fairfax District. It would then continue through West Hollywood, Hollywood, and the Hollywood Bowl. It would also allow one-line travel from LAX to the Hollywood Bowl, Horvath said. It is designed to create a continuous north–south rail corridor through central Los Angeles. That corridor would link four major rail lines and six busy bus routes.

Supervisor and Metro Board Member Lindsey P. Horvath said:
This is a transformational moment for Los Angeles. Today’s approval of the K Line Northern Extension San Vicente–Fairfax alignment will finally connect communities and make it possible to travel from LAX to the Hollywood Bowl on one line.
This amendment delivers both urgency and certainty. With the leadership of Mayor Bass and Mayor Heilman, we are investing intentionally in connection, community, and opportunity, while answering the fierce urgency of a rising generation counting on us to get this right—and get the K Line North done now.
Riders, jobs and regional access
The extension is projected to serve around 100,000 daily riders. It would also provide access to 125,000 jobs within walking distance of stations. In addition, it would serve more than 325,000 residents who depend on public transport. It is also expected to improve access to education, healthcare, and essential services regionwide.
Meanwhile, construction is estimated to create over 10,000 union jobs. It is also projected to generate 9.7 billion USD in wages and more than 22 billion USD in overall economic activity for Los Angeles County.
Public input before the board vote
Separately, before approving the motion, the board considered public input for 1.5 hours. More than 900 people registered to comment.
