National rail operator Irish Rail and French rolling stock manufacturer Alstom have shown the Irish public a mock-up of a DART+ carriage based on the Alstom X’trapolis commuter train platform. The French company has entered into a ten-year framework agreement with Irish Rail to produce up to 750 new X’trapolis commuter cars for the Irish DART network. Alstom has received an order for 37 five-car X’trapolis trainsets, including a 15-year maintenance contract. Of these 37 trains, 31 are battery electric trains and six are electric trains.

The company claims that the new green trains will have greater capacity and help reduce the carbon footprint of the commuter network in Greater Dublin, Ireland’s most populous suburb.
