JSC “Ukrzaliznytsia” is considering the possibility of purchasing another 40 diesel locomotives of the American company Wabtec (GE), which will completely cover the need for diesel main line traction.

This was announced by Sergey Pavlov, Director of the Locomotive Economy Department of UZ, during the Rail Expo conference on Thursday, October 21.

“Thus, we cover the full demand … The locomotives that will be released as a result of the renewal on the Odessa and Pridneprovsk railways will be transferred to other lines,” said Sergei Pavlov

Turkmenistan will receive two TMH diesel locomotives

He noted that the new diesel locomotives have significantly longer periods between maintenance. They are also more energy efficient, reports Railway Supply, citing Railinsider.

The director of the profile department noted that negotiations are underway with Alstom on potential supplies of new electric locomotives. Now UZ operates 30 new TE33AS diesel locomotives of the American company GE.

As previously reported, the Minister of Infrastructure announced that the signing of a contract between Alstom and Ukrzaliznytsya is approaching.
