Twin TE33AS diesel locomotives are used for heavy trains

Regional branch “Pridneprovskaya Railway” of JSC “Ukrzaliznytsya” successfully uses freight trains of increased weight and length. This increases the capacity of single-track sections of the highway in the east direction, informs railway magazine Railway Supply with a link to their website.

Freight trains, consisting of 85 cars and weighing up to 8 thousand tons, which is twice the norm, now run on the directions Zaporozhye – Kamysh-Zarya, Melitopol – Kamysh-Zarya and Chaplino – Pologi.

To drive freight trains of increased weight and length, double traction is used – two TE33AS diesel locomotives, operating on a multi-unit system and served by one locomotive crew from the main locomotive with the help of computer equipment of the TE33AC.

This method of rolling stock control allows increasing the throughput of single-track sections, more efficient use of locomotive crews and schedule lines, increase the average weight of a freight train, and reduce operating costs.

At present, every fifth freight train that the Dnipro railway workers transfer to the Donetsk railway is a train of increased weight and length.
