The principle of operation of the rail lubricator

The track rail lubricator consists of a lubricant reservoir installed near the tracks on a supporting structure. The reservoir is connected to the distributor by means of a supply channel. On both sides of the distributor, there are controllers for dosing the lubricant. Dosing plates are installed on the rail, connected to the controllers by distribution channels.

Passing over the controller, the wheel presses the button and thus opens the way for the lubricant flowing in separate portions to the outlets of the nozzles of the dosing plates. The ridge of the wheel moving above the plates “picks up” the lubricant, distributing it with each revolution over the next sections of the rail (for one kilometer or more), which allows using one lubrication unit on a given curve.

The lubrication inside the equipment is pressurized by a spring-loaded piston.

Field of application of rail lubricators

The track rail lubricator is used to lubricate rails on track sections with small radius curves. This applies to both the railway and light rail systems (metro, tram, etc.). Track rail lubricator is used to reduce wear of the rail head and railway wheels of the rolling stock.

  • Does not adversely affect traction properties: after the rail head (both rails) has been completely lubricated on a track with a steep slope (~ 20 ‰) and small radius curves (250-300 m), a train with a maximum weight of ~ 800 tons was able to pull out and continue driving;
  • The grease is biodegradable and therefore does not have an adverse effect on the environment.
  • A track rail lubricator is an effective means of reducing the maintenance costs of railway tracks with large horizontal curves, and can be recommended for use in railway and light rail systems (metro, tram), including those with a steep slope of the project line.
