Former head of Ukrzaliznytsia acquired a stake in amber mining

The ex-head of the board of Ukrzaliznytsia Wojciech Balchun became a co-owner of the Ukrainian company Aurum Polonez LLC in September 2020. The company is registered in Rivne and is engaged in mining and quarrying. The total capital of the company is UAH 262.5 thousand. Wojciech Balchun accounts for slightly less than UAH 51.2 thousand, or 19.5% informs Railway Supply magazine with reference to the site NADRA.info.

According to YouControl service, other founders of the company are Nikolay Nemtsov from Chernivtsi and a company from Poland “Amos Investments”. In the Polish registries, it is listed as a joint stock company, founded in 2016, with a capital of 2 million zlotys and the main activity of “Services related to maritime transport”.

Wojciech Balchun himself has not yet commented on the information for the publication. According to NADRA.info, Aurum Polonez LLC has been operating since November 2020 at the Pugach site of the Klesovskoye field (the outskirts of Klesov, Rivne region). The special permit for it is owned by the state enterprise “Burshtin Ukrainy”, which disposes of the quarried amber.

“Last year a private company signed a forward contract with the state-owned enterprise and allocated funds that allowed the SOE to pay off part of its wage and tax debts. Also, with funds received from Polish investors, a part of the equipment of Burshtin Ukrainy was repaired. Due to this the enterprise has moved forward. In the IV quarter of 2020, the enterprise mined more than 260 kg of raw amber, ”the newspaper notes, citing its own sources.

Polish manager and rock musician Wojciech Balchun was elected the chairman of the board of JSC “Ukrzaliznytsia” by the results of an open competition. He headed the state-owned railway company from April 2016 to August 2017.
