First Desiro DC train arrives in Israel

The first of 60 new Desiro DC electric trains for Israel Railways has been delivered to Israel. According to Siemens Mobility, the transport arrived on schedule. The vehicles were unloaded at the port of Ashdod, informs Railway Supply magazine citing Raport Kolejowy.

The contract for the supply of electric trains was signed at the beginning of 2018. The entire order must be completed within 10 years from the date of signing the document.

The value of the contract between Israel Railways and Siemens is about 900 million euros. Following the signing of the contract, Siemens received an order for the first 24 trains – six in a 4-car configuration and eighteen in a 6-car configuration. In addition, the contractor guarantees a 15-year maintenance period for 24 electric trains, construction of a technical workshop in Ashkelon and other maintenance options.
