The Czechs once again prove how strong the country railway industry is. Rolling stock manufacturer CZ LOKO has made significant progress in the production of its first hybrid locomotive. The DualShunter 2000 should be ready early next year. It will combine electric and diesel propulsion. It is reported by Railway Supply magazine with reference to Zdopravy.

The first two DualShunter 2000 locomotives have been ordered by the Italian freight carrier Mercitalia, owned by the Italian state railways. The contract is for 2023 and 2024 with an option for two more locomotives.

EU reaffirms its railway sector development plan

CZ LOKO will offer versions for three different power systems (3 kV DC, 15 kV AC, 25 kV AC) and will always be equipped with a CAT SM 32 (1100 kW) diesel engine and battery. Locomotives will allow to combine traffic on main lines under the contact network, and diesel to work on sidings and secondary tracks without electrification.
