Delhi Aerocity Metro Station interchange hub plans sit at the heart of Delhi Metro’s Phase 4 expansion, as outlined in a recent Delhi Metro Rail Corporation press release and referenced in Railway Supply. The Airport Express Line stop is being developed into a major transfer point for the Tughlakabad–Aerocity Golden Line and, later, for the NCRTC network across the wider NCR.

Phase 4 links: Airport Express Line and Tughlakabad–Aerocity Golden Line

With Phase 4 moving ahead, Aerocity is set to take on a much larger role than an airport-facing station. The focus is on building a high-capacity interchange where passengers can move between the Airport Express Line and the Tughlakabad–Aerocity Golden Line corridor in a more straightforward way.

The stated aim is to strengthen the metro network around the airport and improve connectivity across south Delhi. Concentrating transfers at Aerocity is part of that approach, supporting more direct trips for riders heading to Indira Gandhi International Airport or continuing into the city via the expanding Phase 4 grid.

Delhi Aerocity Metro Station interchange hub design and future NCRTC integration

Plans for the station go beyond a two-line interchange. Aerocity is also being prepared for future interchange facilities for the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) for its proposed corridor to Alwar, consistent with NCRTC project details. Structural provisions for an NCRTC platform are to be built in during construction, so the connection can be added later without major modifications.

The design also reflects how the alignments meet. Under the planned layout, the Golden Line and the proposed NCRTC corridor will cross each other almost diagonally, and the station arrangement accounts for that to maintain operational efficiency and passenger convenience.

Golden Line extension to Terminal 1 IGI Airport Metro Station

Approval has been granted to extend the Golden Line corridor from Aerocity to the Terminal 1 IGI Airport Metro Station. The extension spans 2.263 kilometres and is expected to improve passenger movement, particularly for travelers using Terminal 1, while reinforcing Aerocity’s role as a strategic interchange location for multiple metro links.

Inside the station, the interchange is planned around a few transfer options. The layout provides platform-to-platform connectivity on one side, alongside concourse-to-concourse paid area connectivity between the Airport Express Line and the Golden Line. The Golden Line platform is planned at an approximate depth of 22 metres.

To accommodate interchange requirements, the Golden Line station at Aerocity is planned at around 290 metres in length—longer than a typical interchange station, which is generally about 260 metres. The extra length is intended to help manage passenger flow efficiently during peak hours.

For south Delhi, the interchange is positioned as a major airport-access boost. Localities such as Tughlakabad, Ambedkar Nagar, and Khanpur are set to gain faster and more direct access to all terminals of Indira Gandhi International Airport via the Aerocity–Tughlakabad Metro corridor. With the Golden Line extended to Terminal 1 IGI Airport, passengers from multiple south Delhi neighbourhoods would be able to reach Terminal 1 directly, while travelers arriving at Terminal 1D would be able to connect to the Airport Express Line by using the Golden Line to reach Aerocity and transferring there.

Overall, the redevelopment is framed as a key milestone in Delhi Metro’s Phase 4 expansion, bringing multi-line integration, future NCRTC connectivity, and improved airport access together at a single, high-impact hub.
