CN Rail train derailment leaves 45 cars off tracks

A CN Rail train derailment northeast of Montreal on Sunday resulted in no reported injuries, spills, leaks or fires, and police said none of the railcars contained hazardous materials.

Police in Repentigny said railway investigators were expected to continue dismantling and cleanup work at the site into Monday.
A CN Rail representative said 45 railcars left the tracks. Three of the cars had previously carried diesel, but they were not loaded at the time of the derailment.
Power outages after the Repentigny derailment
The derailment also disrupted electricity service in the area. Hydro-Québec’s website showed that slightly more than 1,000 customers lost power, though only a handful of outages remained early Monday.
Repentigny Mayor Nicolas Dufour addressed the incident on social media, describing it as an “unsettling situation” and thanking local residents for their resilience.
