China adds new HSG-2 for high-speed rail maintenance
16.03.2026
As reported by Rail Technology Magazine, high-speed rail maintenance in China is expanding. In a Vossloh statement, Vossloh said the new HSG-2 will be built in Hamburg. Also, it is due for delivery in the summer of 2027. At the same time, the order extends a long-running partnership in China.

Preventive high-speed rail maintenance in China
Vossloh’s grinding technology has supported China’s preventive rail maintenance for more than ten years. Meanwhile, 12 of the nation’s 18 regional railway administrations use the system. They use it on heavily trafficked routes. For example, the HSG fleet worked on roughly 42,000 kilometres of track in 2025. That included the Beijing–Shanghai line.
China high-speed rail network and maintenance expansion
The order comes as the China high-speed rail network continues to expand. It is already about 50,000 kilometres long. In addition, government plans call for more than 70,000 kilometres by 2035. Still, the long-term maintenance strategy remains focused on safety, reliability and network availability.

Commenting on the latest agreement, Vossloh CEO Oliver Schuster said: “China demonstrates how effective preventive maintenance is in high-speed rail. The agreed delivery for capacity expansion confirms the great confidence in our technology.”

Another HSG-2 is due for delivery to China in 2027. Separately, Vossloh is strengthening its position in an international market. At the same time, that market is increasingly focused on cost efficiency and reliability. For rail leaders in the UK, the development also points to a wider direction in the sector. Meanwhile, high-speed networks are placing more emphasis on continuous, data-driven and non-disruptive track maintenance. They are doing so to support long-term performance.
