Izaak Walton Inn for sale at $18 million in Montana

The Izaak Walton Inn for sale listing has returned the historic railroad lodge to the market. It stands on the edge of Montana’s Glacier National Park. Its asking price is $18 million. The property was listed just two weeks after it closed because of financial troubles.

Railroad heritage and Montana setting

The inn stands along BNSF Railway’s former Great Northern Railway main line in northwestern Montana. It has long been familiar to railroad enthusiasts. Also, Great Northern partnered with the Addison Miller Company to build the hotel in 1939. The goal was to help crews keep the route over Marias Pass open in winter.

In recent years, the mountain hamlet has also become a destination for cross-country skiers. At the same time, the railroad continued using the inn. It housed crews supporting winter operations. In addition, the property includes several cabooses and an EMD F45 converted into cabins. Meanwhile, Amtrak serves Essex, where the Empire Builder stops nearby.

LOGE Camps, renovation, and sale details

LOGE Camps bought the property in 2022. Also, the Izaak Walton Inn reopened in late 2024 after a major renovation. Still, LOGE Camps said earlier this year that it was dealing with “significant” financial issues. Separately, it began shutting down all of its operations, including the Izaak Walton. That was reported by Montana Free Press. In addition, the inn and the nearly 90 acres around it are now being marketed. Potential buyers are being told it is a “turnkey resort.”
