West of Hudson Transit Study: NYSDOT looks at NYC commutes
25.02.2026
The West of Hudson Transit Study is underway as the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) studies ways to improve transit west of the Hudson River for commutes into New York City, as reported by Progressive Railroading.

What NYSDOT is examining in the Hudson Valley?
Separately, according to a press release issued by New York Gov. Kathy Hochul’s office (Governor Kathy Hochul), the study will look at the hurdles Hudson Valley commuters face. These include limited cross-county connections and poor coordination between transit options.

In addition, NYSDOT expects the work to produce ways to improve bus services. It also aims to tighten connections to existing passenger-rail lines and ferries that riders already use to reach New York City.
West of Hudson Transit Study priorities for transit connections
At the same time, the West of Hudson Transit Study will examine locations where roadway infrastructure can be improved to prioritize mass transit, allowing passengers to bypass congestion.
Also, improvements identified through the study are intended to be implemented on an ongoing basis. NYSDOT has begun conducting rider surveys as part of the effort.
Recent steps tied to Metro-North Railroad service
Still, state officials said the study builds on ongoing efforts to improve transit in the Hudson Valley, including the Jan. 2 launch of a bus service expansion that doubled weekday connections to MTA Metro-North Railroad trains to and from New York City.
