Union Pacific Trump locomotive No. 4547 debuted Tuesday, leading a train carrying rocket components for NASA’s Artemis III lunar exploration mission.

The commemorative unit honors President Donald Trump and carries a mostly white livery with an American flag design. Trump’s name appears in gold lettering, while No. 4547 led the move of solid rocket motor segments. Union Pacific’s Abraham Lincoln locomotive also helped power the train as it left a facility near Corinne.
Union Pacific CEO Jim Vena attended the ceremony with Utah lawmakers and representatives from Northrop Grumman, NASA, and Wabtec. The event brought together the christening of the Donald Trump locomotive No. 4547 and the shipment of components connected with NASA’s Artemis III mission.
No. 4547 highlights Union Pacific presidential locomotives
According to Union Pacific, Vena said the commemorative engine honors President Donald J. Trump and also supports the movement of key Artemis III hardware. He said No. 4547 reflects the strength of the national supply chain and the railroad’s role in connecting industries, communities, and opportunity — from its rail network to the future lunar mission.
According to NASA, Artemis III is planned as the second crewed mission in the agency’s Artemis lunar exploration program. The mission is scheduled for launch next year.
The Trump unit is the railroad’s third locomotive honoring a president. It stands alongside the Abraham Lincoln locomotive and a unit honoring President George H.W. Bush, which is now displayed at the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum in College Station, Texas.
A rail tribute framed as a wider American symbol
Earlier this year, Vena told Trains that No. 4547 was actually intended to celebrate America rather than any single individual. In that framing, the locomotive sits within Union Pacific presidential locomotives as both a presidential tribute and a broader national symbol.
Union Pacific also released a video showing clips from the christening ceremony and other parts of Tuesday’s event.
