China has reached a new level in the development of transportation infrastructure: the rapidly growing country is implementing innovative freight delivery methods by launching the world’s first high-speed freight service using passenger trains, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Freight services of the CRH380BL model have started operating on the Zhengzhou-Chongqing line, which was previously exclusively used for passenger transport.

To adapt the trains for freight transportation, passenger seats have been covered with special covers, and various goods have been placed in the carriages, ranging from fresh food to electronics.

With these enhancements, the trains are capable of carrying up to 15 tons of cargo over distances of more than a thousand kilometers in less than 5 hours, making them competitive compared to road and air transport.

The CRH380BL model is part of the CRH3 series of trains, developed in collaboration with Siemens and Tangshan Railway Vehicle companies.

Since their introduction in 2009, these trains have come a long way in development, now capable of reaching speeds of up to 350 km/h and accommodating over a thousand passengers.
