Supply of Hybrid Trains to Ireland

Irish transporters Irish Rail and Northern Ireland Railways have announced a tender for the supply of 8 hybrid trains with a length of up to 200 meters, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
The new rolling stock is planned to be launched in 2028-2029 on the Dublin – Belfast line with a track gauge of 1600 mm.

Initially, the trains are intended to be operated using traction from a diesel engine and battery packs.
Subsequently, they will undergo modernization: replacing diesel with a set of power equipment for operation from an overhead catenary.
