Škoda Group has signed a EUR 120m contract for Škoda electric trains Uzbekistan supply. Under it, the company will provide 10 new-generation regional electric multiple units to Uzbekistan Railways. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Škoda electric trains Uzbekistan contract scope

According to Rail Market, the EMUs are built for Uzbekistan’s 1,520 mm gauge rail network. They are intended for regional passenger services. Their design is based on Škoda platforms already operating in Latvia and Estonia.

Also, the contract includes localisation measures in Uzbekistan. These cover a joint venture for local production and maintenance activities. In addition, a Škoda Academy will train technical staff. It will also support the transfer of maintenance know-how to local staff.

Localisation and institutional support

The project is part of the European Union’s Global Gateway framework. Also, UzDaily reported that it has support from Czech and EU institutions. These include the European Investment Bank and the export credit agency EGAP.
