According to Amtrak Media, the train has completed manufacturing. Also, the next stage will assess its safety and performance before the new units enter passenger service.

Testing before Cascades service

Amtrak operates the Cascades route, which serves cities across the Pacific Northwest. The new trainsets are intended to replace older rolling stock and improve reliability on the corridor.

According to Amtrak’s Airo overview, the trains are being built by Siemens in California. They are funded through the Federal Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. In addition, these trains represent a major investment in the region’s passenger rail system.

This latest movement is the third completed unit. The planned fleet totals 83 Airo trainsets for use across Amtrak’s network.

The new trains are expected to enter service on the Cascades corridor later this year.
