Metrolinx transit security at Union Station
Beginning this week, trained Metrolinx special constables will patrol Union Station. At the same time, additional Toronto police officers on duty will patrol Union Station. Metrolinx outlined the move in a press release. It said the added presence is intended to strengthen coordination with the city. It also said the move is meant to lower response times.
According to the agency, its special constables complete province-mandated police training. In addition, they receive specialized transit and de-escalation instruction. Metrolinx also plans to hire more officers in the coming months. Meanwhile, security staff and front-line transit staff will also begin wearing body cameras. Separately, the added measures are not limited to patrols at Union Station.
“Enhanced transit safety officer coverage and increased police presence are all part of the comprehensive planning we’ve been doing for months to ensure every rider, whether they’re heading to a [2026 FIFA World Cup] match, a concert or their daily commute, feels confident on our system,” said Metrolinx President and CEO Michal Lindsay.
