Saudi rail freight route gives Gulf ports a Jordan link
30.03.2026
Saudi rail freight route links Arabian Gulf ports with the Jordan border crossing. According to Saudi Press Agency, SAUDI Arabian Railways (SAR) announced the service. Also, SAR says it will support goods movement and exports. In addition, SAR says it will improve supply chain efficiency.

Meanwhile, trains carrying more than 400 containers will travel about 1700km. Separately, the route starts at three ports:
- the Port of King Abdulaziz in Dammam
- Jubail Commercial Port
- King Fahd Industrial Port
At the same time, the service will use the North-South Railway. It will run to Al Zabirah Junction. It then continues north to Al-Haditha and Jordan.
Still, as Reuters reported, the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz continues. It is disrupting the safe sea transport of various goods from the Persian Gulf. That sea route runs through the narrow waterway between Iran and the United Arab Emirates.
SAR says route supports regional connectivity
For example, Arab News reported an X post from Saudi transport minister Saleh Al-Jasser. He said the launch represents a “practical model for integrating modes of transportation.”

In addition, SAR posted on X about the route. It said the route could connect domestic markets with neighbouring countries. Those countries lie to the east and north. “It reinforces connectivity between Saudi Arabia’s seaports and northern and eastern land crossings,” SAR says.
Meanwhile, SAR added that the service can reduce shipping times by half. It compared the service with other land transport methods.
