The Canada Strong Pass is returning for summer travel in Canada. It will make domestic trips more affordable from June 19 to Sept. 7.

The Canada Strong Pass offers Canadians and visitors free and discounted access to top national attractions between June 20 and September 2, 2025, making travel more affordable this summer

The programme is entering its third season. It offers free admission at selected locations. It also offers discounted overnight stays and lower Via Rail fares. At the same time, travel is expected to cost more this year. Also, Prime Minister Mark Carney first announced the initiative in April. He said it was created to “help the next generation discover all Canada has to offer.”

What the Canada Strong Pass includes?

Despite the name, the Canada Strong Pass isn’t a physical pass. Instead, visitors can get free admission or discounts. The offer covers participating Parks Canada sites, museums, galleries, and Via Rail services.

“No entry pass or ticket is required to visit locations that are open during the free admission period,” reads the website. “Parks Canada staff will continue to welcome visitors at gates and visitor centres.”

In addition, the offer is open to everyone. It includes Canadian citizens, permanent residents, temporary residents, and tourists.

Visitors can enter participating locations operated by Parks Canada free of charge. Regular operating hours still apply. Also, discounted rates apply to camping and overnight accommodations with Parks Canada. Still, fees continue to apply for guided hikes, tours, and programmes. They also apply to permits, parking, fishing licences, and firewood.

Via Rail, museums and galleries discounts

The programme also covers discounts at participating museums and galleries. For example, admission is free for visitors aged 17 and under. Meanwhile, those aged 18 to 24 receive 50 per cent off entry fees.

Via Rail discounted fares are also part of the offer. In addition, children and youth aged 17 can travel free when accompanied by an adult. Also, adults aged 18 to 24 can get 25 per cent off. It applies on valid Via Rail routes across Canada. They must use the discount code CANADA1824.

Last summer’s impact and U.S. park fee contrast

Last summer, the pass “had a tangible impact,” according to Parks Canada. Via Rail ridership increased by 6.5 per cent. At the same time, visits to Parks Canada sites rose by 13 per cent. Separately, the agency reported a 15 per cent increase in national museum visits. It also reported a 6.3 per cent rise in visitors. The increase covered participating provincial and territorial museums and art galleries.

Meanwhile, Canadians planning trips to U.S. national parks are facing higher costs. The Department of the Interior increased entrance fees for non-U.S. residents. The change took effect on Jan. 1. In addition, the Annual Pass rose from US$80 (C$109) to US$250 (C$341.88).
