São Paulo rail signalling contracts awarded to Alstom and Siemens Mobility will automate a CPTM yard and equip the Line 4-Yellow extension with driverless control technology.

São Paulo rail signalling contracts: Alstom at Mauá

Under Alstom’s contract with Companhia Paulista de Trens Metropolitanos⁠, the new Mauá Norte Yard on Line 10-Turquoise will receive a complete signalling system. The facility lies between Mauá and Capuava stations and has six tracks for shunting, train formation and overnight stabling.

The package covers electronic interlocking, powered switch control, trackside signals and train-occupancy detection designed to Safety Integrity Level 4. Alstom will also provide CCTV, access control, telecommunications and dedicated railway radio. A local control centre and two remote supervision posts will connect with the Line 10 operational control centre.

Delivery is scheduled over 18 months, followed by six months of operational monitoring. The contract includes a two-year warranty, while system development and supply will use Brazilian labour.

São Paulo rail signalling contracts: Siemens on Line 4

Siemens Mobility was selected by Motiva⁠ to equip the 3.3-kilometre extension of Line 4-Yellow from Vila Sônia–Profª Elisabeth Tenreiro to Taboão da Serra. The double-track project adds Chácara do Jockey and Taboão da Serra stations, taking the route to 16.1 kilometres.

The company will supply Trainguard MT communications-based train control, electronic interlocking, telecommunications, operational supervision and Grade of Automation 4. Six trains will also receive CBTC equipment so they can operate seamlessly across the extended line.

The extension is expected to serve about 110,000 passengers per day and benefit more than 280,000 residents. Siemens estimates a 26-minute journey between Luz and Taboão da Serra, which will become the first São Paulo Metro station outside the city boundary.

Two contracts, separate operating needs

Although announced on the same day, the projects address different parts of São Paulo’s rail network. Alstom’s work focuses on safer and more efficient depot movements for CPTM, while Siemens is extending automated metro control into a new passenger corridor. Neither official announcement states a contract value.
