Amtrak Night Owl Fares Expand Across Northeast Corridor

18.07.2026

Amtrak Night Owl fares now cover every Northeast Corridor city between Boston and Washington, extending discounted Coach travel to departures scheduled from 6 p.m. to 8 a.m.

Amtrak Night Owl fares cover the full corridor

Amtrak says the expanded offer applies to select trains serving any city pair between Boston, Massachusetts, and Washington, D.C. The broader time window gives passengers 14 hours each day to find discounted late-evening, overnight or early-morning departures.

The current fare table lists one-way Coach tickets from $10 for New York–Philadelphia, Philadelphia–Washington and Philadelphia–Baltimore/BWI. Other examples include $15 between New Haven and Boston, $20 between New York and either Boston or Washington, $25 for Boston–Philadelphia and New Haven–Washington, and $30 for the full Boston–Washington journey.

Compared with Amtrak’s September 2023 expansion, which covered departures from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., the current offer adds one hour at each end of the window and explicitly includes all cities along the corridor. The company originally introduced Night Owl pricing between New York and Washington in March 2023 before extending the program north to Boston.

What Amtrak Night Owl fares include?

Eligible passengers receive the same Coach service offered on other Amtrak departures, including large seats, no middle seats, free Wi-Fi, power outlets and allowance for one personal item plus two bags. Travelers looking for a quieter trip may also use the Quiet Car where available.

The promotion applies only to Coach travel on eligible Boston–Washington services. Seats are limited, and the lowest prices may not appear on every train, date or departure. Fare-specific change, cancellation, blackout and refund rules still apply, while bookings made entirely with Amtrak Guest Rewards points or through Points & Cash are excluded.

Passengers using New York Penn Station should also note that Moynihan Train Hall closes daily from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m. During that period, Amtrak advises customers to depart from or arrive through Penn Station instead.

Travelers can check the latest prices by entering their exact stations and dates on Amtrak’s Night Owl page. Because schedules and fares can change without notice, the displayed booking result remains the final price for each trip.
